The Day of Love

L O V E……love is a word we use all the time.  We say it about things we enjoy eating, about our favorite shoes, a sports team we like, or an actor we admire.  And of course, we say it about our friends and family. It is a word that should carry so much weight, yet we throw it around without giving it any real consideration.

My idea behind this blog post, and several of this week’s posts, has been to take a minute to really focus on the gift of love, because it is not only “a” gift, but also “the” greatest gift we will ever receive!  Over two thousand years ago, a man died for love.  The single thing that held him to the cross was love.  “We love because he first loved us” 1 John 4:19

In this life I wish we could take more time to love others and to love them well.  But the key here is to love well and not to just love those we were born to love, like our family and friends. They, largely, are easy to love and do not require real work to love them.

But how about loving them well?  Now that isn’t as easy.  To go out of your way for them, to put them before yourself, cherish them, and even to be inconvenienced for their sake, is the love I am talking about.  Love is an incredible phenomenon, but true, deep and abiding love is not easy…. just ask any parent.  Or any spouse after years of marriage.

The second form of love I am talking about is loving your neighbor, and not just the person who lives next door to you, but your “neighbor” being ALL people; yes, I said all.  And the real challenge is to “love them as you love yourself”.  And let’s be honest, we all don’t go around talking about how much we love ourselves but we all inherently love ourselves A LOT!

Every day we care for ourselves in countless ways, and if anyone tries to make life difficult for us or harm us in any way, we immediately go on the defensive.    When I say to love your neighbor, and to love them as you love yourself, is the ability to do that and do it well goes to another other level.  To give love to a stranger in line at Starbucks, or a checkout person at the grocery store, or a homeless person you pass on the street is not something that comes naturally to us. And trying to love someone who has been unfair, unkind or just flat out awful to you is REALLY, REALLY, difficult to say the least!

So, my challenge to us all, myself included, is twofold:

Let us love the already loveable with an inconvenient kind of love and the second is to love our neighbors as ourselves. To love them free of judgment, to see them through God’s eyes and not our own flawed eyes.  See who you can reach out to this very day with a bit of real L O V E.

All my love to you!

XO Tamara

NYE: Spark and Shine and All Things Divine

Every year we get so consumed with Christmas shopping that New Years Eve can pop up and we are frantically thinking WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?!  Just as years past all things that sparkle and shine are great for NYE.  However to ring in 2019 maybe do something a little different like wearing a fantastic dress with piettes or some other form of shine like I am doing in my look.

Take the regular sequins, as wonderful as they are, and add a new bling to your wardrobe.  Also go back and visit the Holiday post for Velvet or Suit up, just as something new and unique. Mix it up this year. These are other wonderful options to add into your NYE repertoire and also mix beautifully with all things that shine.

This look is also super fun as it is that winter white meets silver metallic, both trends I have talked about this season. So you can look amazing while ringing in 2019 but also stay fashion forward and keeping hitting on trends from the season for the look!

Holiday: Suit Up

Cocktail Suit

Want an option for this holiday season and beyond that is not the typical dress?  Don't get me wrong, I love a good dress more than any other garment I wear! But sometimes it just feels right to break the mold and go for something fresh and chic and this season that would be… the cocktail suit!

Whether you mix a blazer with a skirt or pants there are countless ways to create the perfect look.  Tuxedo style jackets or pants along with rich silk or velvet fabrics are some great examples of ways to rock this look. And don't feel like you have to go out and pick an exact set.  Find a jacket and a pant or skirt that you love and mix them together.  Club Monaco has some great options to create this look as does Vince and Alice and Olivia just to name a few.  And as always you don't have to break your bank to get this trend with stores like Top Shop and Zara. All the clothing pieces I am wearing for this trend are from Zara, so it seriously can be done on a budget!

After the holidays mix the blazers with jeans for a night out or take this look to an after 5 event or a wedding. So these pieces can be versatile for you for all year.

For my outfit and the example of how you can wear this trend, I did the ribbed turleneck tank. This is a more causal look with the suit. But, if needed, you can absolutley add in a satin or velvet camisole underneath for that dressier feel!

At least once this season put the dress down and suit up!

Gift Guide : Passion for Fashion Girl

Now, this is for the trendy and all about fashion girlfriend of yours! These pieces are both practical for the season and yet super fun and feminine! I love a great accessory in my wardrobe and the holidays is a great time to give these type wardrobe musts!

Fashion accessoires are a great gift and can be very personal to the receiver, but also can be affordable for the giver! Win win!

  1. Earrings! One of my favorite gift items is always a fun pair of earrings.  For some reason I find people stay safe when buying their own earrings so I love to get them something out of their box. Here I have found two great options that I will definitely be giving people this Christmas.  As the trend of adding words on everything is everywhere these LOVE earrings are so fun!  And the multi-colored dangles add the perfect accent to so many outfits.

  2. Scarf: To me a great scarf is another amazing gift.  It too is something that people don't tend to buy for them shelves or when they do they buy a practical color like black.  With plaid and scarves being such it items this season you can combine two trends in one.  This scarf is super cozy and can pair with everything from a jean jacket for those who live in warmer clients to the sleeping bag I wear traipsing around New York all winter long.

  3. Leopard Fanny Pack: I love a fun yet practical trend and this little number is perfect for Secret Santa gift exchanges and gift giving for the fun person who seems to have everything.  This little guy is great for traveling, walking around the city, and can be easily thrown in a larger tote for days on the go.  Other options Here, Here and Here!
