LOOKING BACK TO LOOK FORWARD | Fall Fashion Week Blog 2019

IMG_0013.JPG

There are a few new things happening this fall as we ramp up for NYFW presenting Spring 2020.  As Diane von Furstenberg steps down as the CFDA chairman,  Tom Ford stepped in and one of his first acts as chairman was shortening NYFW from 7 days to 6 with a more compact schedule.

Looking forward

Looking forward to what will be in store next spring there are fresh colors like mint, powder blue, and chiffon yellow.  In addition to these hues, suiting, leather, exaggerated shoulders, romance, bohemian, florals and appliques are among the top trends that will be showcased on the runway.  To be a trendsetter find ways to take these elements into transition and fall. Beginning next week, I will be showing looks that will help take the pieces you loved in summer and make them perfect for fall.  So, take the trends you see during Fashion Week, along with the inspiration I will be giving in the coming weeks, and bring them into your wardrobes this coming season.

PREVIEW FROM FALL 2019

As a preview from fall 2019 here are the top trends for the upcoming season.  I will be bringing back “strut to street “later this fall emphasizing these trends. When you are thinking of yourself what you need to add to your wardrobe for the season here is your cheat sheet!

SAVILE ROW:

Sharp shoulders, belts, tailoring make up the new power suiting for fall.

BOUGIE GIRL:

Silk blouses, bows at the neckline, pleated skirts, tailored jackets, hats all bring chic revival of the classic 70’s girl.

ELECTRIC HUES:

Not for the faint of heart. Bring bold colors into the fall for maximum impact and a fabulous punch of color.

ENGLISH TWEED:

The Queen’s tweed gets a modern take in capes, mixing of plaids, herringbone, tights, lace booties and powerful coats.

DARK ROMANCE:

Give floral life for the fall; with dark romantic florals in modern ladylike shapes.

AT ATTENTION:

Add military vibes into your wardrobe with hardware on blazers and outerwear, combat boots, camouflage and army green.

STATEMENT OUTERWEAR:

Add some love to your coat closet this season with capes, trenches, leather, fur/faux fur, and bomber styles.  Think animal prints, bold colors, belted coats, hardware, metallic ...just go beyond the basics!

ROCK & ROLL METALLIC:

Metallics aren’t just for after 5:00 any longer.  Add silvers, golds, rose golds, metallic colors in all shapes and forms.

PURE UTILITY:

Equipped with pockets for your essentials and built to stand the test of time.

LOVELY IN LACE:

You can always wear lace in beautiful silhouettes or in feminine ways take this classic look to new and exciting depths by how you mix it with the above-mentioned trends.

Favorite Places to Travel in the US

Favorite Places to Travel in the US

This photo was taken this summer in Maine, it was absolutely beautiful!

This photo was taken this summer in Maine, it was absolutely beautiful!

Traveling is something most of us love to do and I am no exception.  I didn’t really begin traveling outside of my typical family vacations we took every year until I was in college but really began spreading my wings post college.  And once I really started, I just couldn’t get enough. Something shifts in my heart when I travel and explore new places, cultures and people. I am fascinated by it all!  Since I have been exploring the US a lot in the last year, I am going to list some of my favorite places to travel in our great country.

Maine (Bar Harbor/Kennebunkport)

I have been in love with the NE ever since I can remember and there are countless things I love about it but when I recently traveled to Maine it quickly moved to one of the top on my list.

Hamptons

As I stated above I adore all things in the NE and my favorite beach spots in this area are in the Hamptons...superficially South Hampton, Sag Harbor, and Shelter Island.

Nantucket

Nantucket is definitely another east coast favorite. So quaint and a picturesque town!

Lake Tahoe

I fell in love big time with the place last summer.  It is the perfect all a year around place and combines my two loves; water and mountains.

vAIL

Vail is just a dream and every time I am there my heart comes alive.  Whether in summer, skiing, fall….any time of year I just love all this town has to offer; not to mention the incredible restaurants.

cARMEL

Carmel is one of my favorite places on the west coast.  This charming town, although cool, is just a true gem and will capture a piece of your heart.

Santa Barbara

I planning to choose this place as my wedding destination…need I say more?!

This photo was also taken this summer but in California!

Siesta key, FL

Siesta Key is a childhood favorite that has lasted well into adulthood.  I used to travel with my family and my mom’s parent’s every spring break since I was a very small child.  Not only does it hold some of my fondest memories it also has the most beautiful sand and beach of any place I have traveled in the US.

OlD FORGE, NY

Old Forge is another place that captured my heart ever since I was a small child. This is the place where my father grew-up and where we traveled every summer to visit his parents and for all of my dad’s side of the family to gather together. They are some of the best memories of my life.

Sun VALLEY, Idaho

Sun Valley is another place that is close to my heart after our summer adventures from last year.  As Erik says it was the “dark horse of our trip”. I loved everything about this gorgeous state and would go back there in a New York minute.

I still have SO many places to see and explore so stay tuned as my adventures will continue!

And in the words of Doctor Seuss:

“…you're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!”

Favorite Things in Dallas

Favorite Things in Dallas: My Dallas Loves…

TG2017-142.jpg

But First, Coffee:

For years Dallas did not have the best coffee scene but recently they have really been stepping

up their game! Some of my favorites that offer delicious coffee, amazing snacks, and the

perfect ambiance are Accession, Mudsmith, Magnolia’s Sous Le Pont, The Weekend Coffee

(also located in my favorite hotel in Dallas, the Joule), and Fiction.

Shop till You Drop

To me, one of the biggest pluses for shopping in boutiques is finding a variety of brands that you

wouldn’t see in the mainstream stores. And Dallas has a lot of fun shops offering a variety of

brands and price points. One of my favorites for the last decade has been Elements. The

women who work there are so friendly and one of the best things about shopping there are the

variety of options, unique brands and price point. And when they have sales, they have amazing deals!

A few other Dallas faves are V.O.D., Richie Hippie, Gypsy Wagon, Gemma… and if you have deep

pockets, Forty-Five Ten is always a great spot with beautiful clothes.

It’s Cocktail O’Clock:

Cocktail spots are a place where Dallas has really grown as they have begun really taking the art

of a great cocktail very seriously. I adore a beautiful location for an amazing drink but I also

love the hidden gems and luckily Dallas has so many of both. In the winter my go-to drink is an

Old Fashioned, which must be made with a single large ice-cube. For warmer months I love a

great margarita, especially a spicy one and my new favorite drink is anything with lavender or

other fresh herbs like rosemary. Some places in the Dallas scene that are among my favorites

are the Tipsy Alchemist, Bowen House, Bourbon and Banter (where my cocktail is in the photo),

and Atwater Alley.

Sweet Treats…Need I Say More?!

I am always down for a delicious treat and it’s one of my favorite things about traveling…

discovering all the confectionary wonders in the cities and towns I visit!

Some of my favorite sugary spots in Dallas are: Bisous Bisous , for all things French (especially macaroons);

Mustang Donuts, for my beloved donut (and in my mind the ultimate sweet reward); Melt, for amazing ice

cream; and Society, for my favorite cupcakes in Dallas (or maybe anywhere)!

Where to Brunch:

Brunch is my favorite meal of the week! Brunch allows you to combine sweet and savory,

breakfast and lunch, eggs and dessert, and coffee and cocktails. There is nothing I don’t love

about brunch. After a great workout on a Saturday or after church on Sunday brunch is my

favorite thing to do. I love to brunch in all places I travel as well as NYC and Dallas. In Dallas,

here are some favorites of mine: Mercat (the spot where Erik and I ate brunch the day after

we got engaged), Overeasy, The Grape, and La Duni.

Favorite Things in New York

In a New York State of Mind:

My NYC Loves…

Photo Jul 14, 7 24 58 PM.jpg

A Great Rooftop:

I LOVE rooftops, especially in cities like NYC. And I am so lucky because my favorite rooftop is

right in my neighborhood at the Kimpton Ink 148 Hotel. Perfect for sunsets and cityscapes. A

few other favorites in the city are Top of the Standard, which works in winter or summer, as well as

Gallow Green.

Where to Grab Coffee in the City:

For something fun and unique I love Oddfellows. You can get things like café Iigeois… one of my

favorites… which is a combination of espresso, small scoop of ice cream, homemade whipped

cream and chocolate soil. Or lattes or other espresso drinks with homemade burnt

marshmallow. For a regular cup of Joe two of my all-time favorites in the city are Rex or Blue

Bottle.

Best Shopping Around:

Favorite area to shop around in the city is in Soho. It has the perfect combination of all the

designer stores you love, mixed in with some of the mainstream staples, amazing street

vendors and great one of a kind boutiques. Not to mention amazing restaurants, coffee shops,

and cocktail bars to recharge you after hours of shopping.

Photo Jul 11, 1 42 59 PM.jpg

Favorite NYC Pizza:

Pizza is one of my favorite go-to foods….there is nothing I don’t love about sauce, cheese and

bread! For a traditional NY slice, Joe’s is excellent and the original location is the one in West Village,

on 6th Ave. But my most favorite pizza in the city is Lombardo’s down in Soho along with in Brooklyn… is

Lucali. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

End with a Cocktail:

I am a huge fan of a unique and delicious cocktail. If a bar only has basic or average cocktails I

will just opt for wine. But for truly genius concoctions that come from a creative mixologist I

am all in! With my love of lavender, I have become obsessed with establishments that are

starting to use this delicious flavor in their cocktails. There is a lavender French 75 at the River

Café that is so incredible you won’t be able to get enough. Not to mention the breathtaking

view of Manhattan that you get while sipping this delicious beverage. Other cocktail faves in

the city are Dear Irving, which is a fantastic speakeasy, The Distillery NYC which is my favorite

neighborhood spot and Death and Company which makes an insane old fashioned.
