Trend Talk – Get the Look

Trend Talk – Get the Look

Trend Talk – Get the Look

The word “trend” is such broad word.  And also a word that can mean different things to different people.  But it is true that certain prints, colors, and silhouettes ebb and flow.  So here are some of my top “trend” picks for this season.

The Bride Gene – Yes white….we all know white is the “color” of spring and summer.  So I’m not setting off any news flashes.  But think of dressing in all white from head to toe.  Think lace, ruffles, eyelet and all things frilly, or bridal if you will.

Boys Club – The stuffy suits we used to wear have been completely turned upside down and inside out.  This time the suiting game have a feminine influence to them.  As well as adding bold prints and colors.  There is also an interesting juxtaposition with this where oversized is part of this look as well as mini and fitted.  So many great ways to turn the boys club into the girls club!

Forward Movement – All things that move like feathers, fringe and anything that adds that special flair to your look.

Y2K – Bringing sexy back with this Christina and Brittany inspired look.  Oh the early 2000’s have circled back and it seems a bit too soon!  This may be hard for some people to digest especially if you were around for the first go of this.  So here comes the low rise, micro miniskirts, crop tops and all things shrunken in clothing.  There are ways to bring some of these pieces into your wardrobe in an age appropriate away (more on this to come).  However the hip hugger jeans are never entering my closet again!

Bare Midriffs – I mentioned shrunken tops above as part of the Y2K trend but they get their own mention.  As well as all of the cutouts.  This too is a tougher one to swallow however there are ways to wear this trend in a way that can work (more on how to style these pieces to come).

La Vie Bohème – All the funky vibes of tie dye, flare legs, light wash jeans, crochet.  Crochet can be a fun one but also intimidating at times.  A jacket/layering piece is a great way to bring this into your closet.

The Strong Game – Black and white…yes, yes I know; black and white…groundbreaking right?  Well no of course not!  But the idea behind this look the bolder the better.  I’m not talking about a solid white top with a black jean and calling it a day.  I am talking about bold black and white prints mixed together.
