Back to Basics | Camis, Tanks & T-Shirts

I believe it is important to have your bases for basics covered and to have strong everyday items in your wardrobe. Everything from foundation pieces (I will get to this in the weeks to come) great camisoles, t-shirts and tank tops. These pieces are season-less and essential. And having the “perfect” basics really does round out your wardrobe.
Whether you need the perfect white t-shirt to dress down a sequin skirt or throw on with your favorite jeans you have it on hand. If you need a lace camisole to dress up that same skirt or wear under a blazer it is hanging in your closet. And the perfect tank covers all these bases and more.

I was with a friend the other day trying to help her put an outfit together and I said “grab a good white tank, we need it to layer this piece” and she said “I don’t have one”. When these pieces are readily available you don’t ever have to be in that situation.

While I am never one to buy the same thing in multiple colors when it comes to basics (and foundation pieces) I renege on that. I have my favorite camisoles, tanks and t-shirts in multiple colors. When you find a basic you love it is a great idea to at least have white and black but also throwing in other shades can be very beneficial.

I also want to say that you may want a variety of these items. For example, a crew neck and v-neck t-shirt, a tank that is crop or hits at your waist so you don’t have to tuck it in and one that you do tuck. These are pieces where variety and multiple options are always a smart idea.

And these basics are not something that you need to break the bank on. They are items that you can buy the best of the best but it is not necessary. Whether you find them at Target or Zara or wherever just buy what you love. That is the biggest thing for these basics is to find what you love, grab it in a few colors, and then wear them as needed. For my favorite whites I even have two of them because after a while white just becomes dingy looking so I rotate them and always have a spare if I need to toss one because I have worn it into the ground.
