Très Chic Outerwear
Welcome to my first blog of 2021! As we are well into winter, and the temps rarely get out of the 30’s, it is all about keeping warm. Especially in New York because if you want to dine out you will be dinning al fresco and that means you are eating dinner in your coat!
It used to be that coats were more function over fashion but now we can have both! I am recapping the top trends in coats for the season and we definitely have many weeks of wearing coats in our futures!
Puffy coats – Puffy coats in all varieties and lengths. Shiny/metallic, leather, quilted, sleeping bag….so many styles. Years ago, I splurged on my Moncler “sleeping bag” coat that has been my winter salvation. It truly helps keep me warm on the coldest days in the coldest climates. But for fun I am really loving my faux fur and metallic puffy coat as they are also very warm and so fashionable.
I rounded up a lot of styles in the “puffy coat section” as so many fall into that category but I do want to break them up a bit because they deserve their own mention.
Metallic coats – shiny vibrant coats are all the rage. Whether you go for a puffy style or another variation. Such a great way to update your coats.
Leather/faux leather – We all have leather jackets but this is a completly new way to break out leather and carry into the colder months. Whether done in a puffy version, what I personally went for this season, or a leather trench (what I have for spring and fall) implementing leather into your coat closet is a chic new way to wear this fabric.
Quilted – this is a unique and fun design to add into your winter wardrobe that is as much function as it is fashion. It is cozy, oversized, and uber chic!
Faux Fur – Fur is always a thing in winter but I personally love that designers have been pushing the faux fur. Not only is it better for the animals it is more kind on our pocketbooks! And you can always do the faux fur in neutral colors (believe me I have brown, black, white, tan) but what I really love is something that makes a true fashion statement like the leopard I went for this season. Also, poppy colors are another fabulous option.
Teddy Bear – AKA shearling, is another fur/faux fur option that is amazing! Again, it too is wonderful in natural colors but also amazing in color and print.
Plaid – One of the really big trends is the plaid shacket. These are really more like jackets so they are something better for fall and I currently wear mine as a top piece/ layering piece and not outerwear because it currently isn’t warm enough for the frigid temps. If you live in a warmer climate, where it doesn’t get freezing cold, then this is the perfect option for an outerwear piece for you. Or you can do a plaid heavier coat which is also a great piece but the trend I am referring to is the oversized plaid shirt/jacket AKA shacket!
Adding any of these coats to your wardrobe will be the perfect complement to your winter wardrobe!
Happy Shopping!
