I have been fighting the (good) fight against women who live in their athletic wear and wear these pieces all day every day. Living in spandex is not the answer ladies! And now with COVID, and everyone being home so much more, it’s like everyone just gave up. So I want to help you guys while allowing you to be comfortable and casual. This week I put together styling suggestions demonstrating how to take your beloved spandex and create fun, easy outfits. Turning your workout wear into acceptable street wear!
I have found that what people like most is having comfort more on the bottom half. Keeping that in mind, most of the looks I created by using either biker shorts or workout leggings. And then changing the top half into something more polished. For fall layering is the key to pulling this off well. I am always of the mindset that you should cover your bum (no matter your size) when wearing spandex outside of the gym. So, either opt for a longer top or a longer layering piece. Graphic tees, or t-shirts of any kind, flowy long tops, oversized button downs, jackets, blazers, knits…. mixing and matching those elements help to create the perfect casual look. Spandex onesies are also a great item to use for your workout to street wear look. You can add a great long jacket and a fashion sneaker and you have a fabulous outfit!
To finish off your look there are several ways you can accomplish this. Hats continue to be very on trend, especially fun logo baseball hats. Hats are the perfect thing to add to your outfit and eliminates the need for fixing your hair☺ For jewelry, you can do simple minimal jewelry, big fun pieces like the chain belt I am wearing with my onesie or none at all…just do what works for you. Complete the look with a great fashion sneaker, flat, mule, bootie…. whatever floats your boat! Obviously the more you play up or down your accessories the dressier or more casual your outfit will be.
