STYLIST TIPS & TRICKS - PART 2
STYLIST TIPS & TRICKS - PART 2
I have some more insider info to share with you guys this week. Just some little things you can do to make your look more polished and also a couple of clothing lifesavers! I am also going to share links with you guys if you want shop!
First up…layering! I personally am a huge fan of layering whether it is under a sweater, jacket, dress etc. But I definitely don’t love adding the bulk. Especially if you want to wear a knit or top and a jacket but still want to add a collar or cuff detail. All the pieces layered on top of each other get to be a lot, are uncomfortable and add bulk and who wants that…no one! Purchasing a couple of dickeys and cuffs are such a simple and chic way to effortlessly adjust your look without adding all the layers. I have added some links for some adorable and very affordable options. I am also adding a few links of my personal favorite Parisian designer who creates these gorgeous pieces and so many of them are on a great discount right now! Want a simple way to shorten your sleeves, keep them scrunched up without looking bulky so they won’t fall down, also allow a sleeve to show well under your jacket or sweater? Well there is a VERY simple solution to this and it is called a rubber band. You can use one or two rubber bands on each arm to get the desired look with your sleeve and it will stay in place all day. My grandfather used to use a rubber band to keep his dress socks from falling down…. he was an innovator for sure and didn’t even know it! Watch the video to see how I implement this simple trick.
The faux tuck is one of my favorite little tricks. Whenever I want the look of something being tucked in but don’t actually want the pain of tucking it in this is the best solution. And if you are wearing a tight skirt or pants and you tuck something in you will most likely see the lines from what you are tucking and that is just NOT attractive! This little trick will save you the frustration of trying to tuck something in and it not looking good. You take a little bit of the edge of the fabric from your top and tuck it all around into your bra. Then simply adjust it at your waist for the look you want. This is another tip where it is better explained in the video☺
I rarely have a problem with pants that gap on me in the back but I know so many people who struggle with this. Especially getting your jeans to fit your waist can be such an issue. And if you don’t want to wear a belt or if the belt just creates a big cinch in your back and doesn’t look good there is another solution. This too will be better to watch but I will attempt to explain. Take a ribbon (I literally use giftwrapping ribbon) or a heavy string of some kind and loop it on the two side loops on your pants. Pull each side towards your back and tie in a bow. This will keep your pants more tailored for the rest of the day. And you can use the restroom without having to retie it!
Now for my couple tips to save your clothes from ending up in the Goodwill pile:
First up is Dawn. Yes, good old fashioned, it’s been around since the beginning of time Dawn (I recommend the blue one). A few quirts of the dish soap liquid in a glass and then fill it with COLD water. Use a white towel or cloth and working mostly with the suds gently, but applying some pressure, rub on the spot and keep repeating until the stain comes out. I have used this trick on everything from coffee to red wine to blood and IT WORKS!
And lastly is a little tool everyone should have on hand. It is a fabric shaver that truly works! I got so tired of my sweaters that aren’t even very old looking like I had worn them every day for a year. No one likes the pilling look…it’s awful! This little tool will save your knits and other fabrics from being tossed in the trash.
If you missed my first round of styling tips & tricks go check them out in my highlights! They are time saving, money saving and many of them will save your clothes from destruction! I will work on putting together another segment for you guys but for now enjoy take 2!
