New York Fashion Week 2020 Recap

Last week was crazy busy so I am just now getting around to posting a little recap from this season’s FW. I have been working FW for 10 years now which is crazy to believe! I started out working For Oscar de la Renta and worked there for several years before moving over to work with other designers mainly Carolina Herrera and Stella McCartney. As some of you know, for several years, I also worked at Paris Fashion Week which was an absolute dream come true. But as the fashion industry continues to struggle, and be clear it is struggling, budgets have greatly decreased so bringing a team over from the US just didn’t make financial sense for Nina Ricci (the company I worked with in Paris).

Styling is what I love to do most and what I do 90% of the time when I am working whether personal styling for clients, styling for TV, commercials, etc. But when I work FW, I put on my production hat. What does production entail, well let me tell you it is so glamorous (insert sarcasm here). There are great things about working production but what I enjoy about it are the people I work with, (we have such a great team), and being a part of all the fittings, working with the models, and seeing the styling and clothing come to life. And just being part of something as iconic as Fashion Week is pretty special. But there are a lot of long hours, we are the last ones to leave, and we have to make sure that every little detail is taken care of perfectly and if one thing goes wrong it’s on us. There is a lot of schlepping and some manual labor and being on your hands and knees to pick things up or do whatever the job calls for. For the last several years I have taken on the lead role and been the head assistant producer which has been amazing for me and the years of hard work have paid off!

I have shown many times the BTS ventures at FW and it really is craziness. I am always amazed by the amount of time, and all the strings being pulled, not to mention the insane amount of money being spent on every single show. There are always little and big fires we are putting out and we are constantly saving the world one fashion crisis at a time (again insert sarcasm).

But this season, THIS season my friend and colleague Shifteh and I produced a show all by ourselves for Adam Lippes (check him out he is a new and upcoming designer who was given rave reviews) and it was AMAZING! She and I have worked together for so many years but this was one of the rare times we got to lead the charge on our own! And we are looking into starting a business together and are in talks about what that will look like so stay tuned for, hopefully, some exciting news in the very near future! So, this is officially a wrap on FW Fall 2020! See you again in September! XO!

XO,

TAMARA
