An Island adventure

With still great time left in summer, if you are getting tired of being home, the northeast is an excellent place to visit even during COVID.  The North East has done an excellent job of handling this crisis and things are very safe.  So, if you are looking for a place to escape, now or in the fall because fall would be spectacular, take a trip to New England.  There are so many places I love and am so grateful I get to travel around this part of the country as much as I do.  From the beaches to the mountains, lakes and rivers along with incredible restaurants and friendly people it truly has everything to offer.  In my latest adventure, I went to Maine and Martha’s Vineyard.  Maine is one of my absolute favorite states, and next to New York my favorite place on the east coast and we also spent time In Martha’s Vineyard.  I had only been to MV a few years ago for a day so it was wonderful to get to spend so much time on this beautiful island.  This week on the blog I am going to give you some of my favorites from the Vineyard and next week I will be sharing all about Maine.

Exploring this beautiful island was so wonderful!  It has made it in my top three places to visit in the Northeast!  If you haven’t been it is a MUST and if you have been before maybe it’s time to make another visit.  Here is my favorites list on what to do on the island….

Helpful Tips about MV:

Martha’s Vineyard is fairly large.  A lot of people question whether they should bring a car or not.  I would highly suggest bringing a car☺  If you fly I would suggest renting one.  You can rent one when you land or you can rent one on the island.  They rent a lot of mini coopers and colorful jeeps to cruise around the island.  You rent a car before getting to the island or drive your own car make sure to make a reservation on the ferry that takes cars.  Book a Ferry

If you don’t have a car make sure you stay in Edgartown or Oak Bluff’s as those are very walkable and you can get where you need to easily.  Also rent bikes for the time you are there as they are heavily used on the island and a great way to get from place to place.

The island actually has a lot of towns within the island.  In my opinion, it is worth exploring all areas of the island if you can but I would strongly recommend staying in Edgartown or Oak Bluffs.  Edgartown is a little more polished and fancier with more elegant restaurants and shopping.  The bluffs are a bit more down-to-earth, more casual vibe and more chill restaurants.  I would say that Oak Bluffs are a bit more affordable than Edgartown as well.  So, depending on your preferences both are great.  If you like the idea of renting a house and being excluded the island has many options for that as well.

My Island Favorites

Larson’s - YOU HAVE TO GET THE HOT BUTTERED LOBSTER ROLL…IT IS LIFE CHANGING!  YOU MAY NEED TO GET TWO!

Back Door Donuts – They have very odd hours and they change from day to day.  Also be prepared to wait in line☺

Donovan’s Reef – cocktails straight from the island of Jamaica.  Never before have I waited in line for a cocktail.  Try the dirty banana!

Favorite Restaurants:

Outermost Inn - This place is a drive and they do a pre-fix menu but truly a special experience.

The Red Cat

Port Hunter

Lookout Tavern – Favorite place we ate.  We loved it so much we ate there twice!  Oysters and lobster tacos were my favorites but everything was delicious and they have a great sushi menu.

19 Raw

State Road

Favorite Beaches:

South Beach – Beautiful sandy beach with fun waves.

State Beach – More rocky/shelly but really lovely.  You can jump off the bridge from the move Jaws (I did it twice) and cocktails are welcome at this beach.  This is on the Vineyard sound so the water s nice and calm and perfect for swimming and lazy floats.  Probably my favorite beach but Erik liked South Beach better.

Favorite Shopping:

Sea Legs

Nell

Slate

The Great Put On

Rags

Claudia

Vintage Jewelry

Other Adventures:

Take a sail out at Sunset on Mad Max’s sail boat

Rent paddle boats or kayaks and take them out on the sound

Rent bikes to ride around the island. It is the perfect way to see the island and also get a little exercise.

Drive to the cliffs in Aquinnah to see the cliffs, lighthouse and to see a spectacular sunset

Take a ferry for a day trip to Nantucket

Take a ferry for a day trip to Newport

Take a ferry for a day trip to Block Island

***if you need any tips or ideas of places to visit on any of the above-mentioned places just DM me☺.

During our trip, we stayed at The Richard boutique hotel in Edgartown and I couldn’t recommend it more.  We loved our stay! I would suggest the King Deluxe or The Richard
