All the White All the Time
All the White All the Time
I seem to address the “white after Labor Day” topic every year b/c every year I get questions about whether or not it is OK. And the easy answer is Yes! of course it’s OK! You will rarely, if ever, hear me say something is “totally out of style”. Sure, things ebb and flow but it is more about how you wear something then something being in or out of style. Now there are fads that come and quickly go as fast as they came, but that is entirely different.
OK so back to the question at hand…white. It can, and should, be worn in any season. If you have heard me say this once you know I have said it 1000% times it is all about how you wear an item that can make it correct or incorrect, and even that stands under scrutiny as fashion is so fluid. But as a stylist I can give you my opinion and on how to wear certain things and in my opinion, there are ways to wear things and ways that are not the best. But that is my eye and not everyone will see things the same as me.
Sticking with white, there are easy ways to make it season appropriate. Over the years white has become something we wear all the time. Fortunately, we finally realized that we don’t have to compartmentalize color all the time and there are ways to bring them into other seasons. Much of this has to do with fabric. A wool white pant is not going to be worn in July the same way a white eyelet dress isn’t going to be worn in winter. But does that mean the white pant can’t translate into other seasons and the same for the white eyelet skirt? Absolutely not.
You will see in the photos I have posted this week a variety of ways to bring summer white into fall. Some of these pieces, depending on the temperatures for where you live, may even work in the winter months. For example, take a turtleneck and wear it with jeans and boots and throw on the white blazer and it becomes a great winter look. While after fall, the white eyelet skirt I would personally put away until spring, but that is just me☺
Shoes are also a great way to transition a color/item into a new season. Swapping a sandal for a boot immediately takes it from summer to fall. Layering is also the key to bringing white into a new season and mixing in different fabrics like heavier knits. All of these little elements create the perfect way for your summer whites to hang around just a bit longer.
