Time To Detox!

On January 6th of this year, I began really focusing on eating cleaner and making better food choices. Here are the changes I have made for 2020:

Eliminating 90% of dairy from my daily eating. I cannot say I have gone 100% diary free BUT I have a very, very limited amount.

Trying to eat gluten-free whenever possible. I am NOT GF in any way but if it is an option, I have been taking it.

Giving up grains….so no bread, rice, pasta, etc. I have been substituting things like zucchini noodles, cauliflower rice, almond flour tortillas/chips and so on.

French fries and potatoes….these get their own category because potatoes are one of my favorite things ever! Giving this up us been HARD. I have had a sweet potato here and there and maybe once or twice I had a regular potato in some form but have done it in very small doses.

Alcohol I have greatly reduced as well. I went from having a glass or two of wine almost daily and cocktails on weekends to no alcohol during the week and sticking to a glass or two of wine on weekends and giving up the delicious cocktails I like so much.

I have greatly reduced the amount of meat I eat and focusing mostly on plant-based eating with and occasionally eating seafood. I have eaten a little white meat but very limited. I love a great steak or burger but for now, I have been eating zero red meat. The plant-based meal plans I have been eating are Sakara Life.

I have also gotten some snacks to have on hand for whenever I’m hungry. One of my downfalls with eating in the past has been that I get so hungry that I will grab whatever I can get my hands on. With these snacks, I can have them for when I need something to eat and also to not allow myself to go too many hours without eating. Another problem I used to have is not eating all day and then eat a crappy meal full of all the things I shouldn’t eat because I was so hungry. I made some homemade nuts that I love. Recipe by Ina Garten for her spicy rosemary nuts. And have been living on snacks from Optavia.

In addition to these eating modifications, I have been adding a few supplements like B12, magnesium, and something for my skin and hair. I have read that too many supplements are not necessary and that you usually end up peeing them out….have you ever noticed your pee is bright yellow? That is your body eliminating all the things it doesn’t need and usually happens when you take vitamins or other supplements your body doesn’t need. Ideally, you should get most if not all of your nutrition from your food unless your body is missing something. For me, I take a prescription that requires me to take B12 although I was never good at taking it but have committed to it and have stuck with it.

Another thing I have added to my eating routine are vital proteins. These are supposed to do all kinds of great things for your body and I figure it sure can’t hurt to add it!

Lastly, I have started drinking a detoxing green tea but this is not something I necessarily do every day but have tried to do consistently at least during the week.

Be Healthy!
