All Things beauty

This week I have been delving into all of my hair, make-up and skin routines and favorite products.  Here is a recap of all the things I talked about this week and all the products I love the most.

Morning Routine:

First things first, do NOT wash your face in the morning.  Use your toner (if you want) and then follow with the rest of the morning routine.  If you are someone who works out in the morning just rinse your face with water when you shower and then use the toner to better clean your skin.

Allow your products to have time to absorb into your skin before you apply your make-up.  Letting the products sink in before applying make-up it will help your make-up to go on better and wear better throughout the day.

I don’t use too many products in the morning but sunscreen is a MUST.  And if your tinted moisturizer or other make-up say they have sunscreen it most likely is not enough.  You need to have a very high-level sunscreen in the morning so make sure you are using the right product to start off your day.  Wear it no matter the time of year and make sure you add sunscreen to your neck, chest, and to the back of your hands as those places see the sun most of the year and should always be protected.

Make-up Routine:

I really focus on my skin and a good “base”.  Tinted moisturizer (or whatever product you want to use), concealer, contouring, highlighter, blush, eye shadow primer, finishing powder, eyebrow color, and then from there you are set and good to go.

You can just add mascara and be good to go or if you want to do a more glam look you can add eye shadow or more dramatic eyes with eyeshadow, eye liner and so on.  Taking a few minutes to focus on your skin and contouring and highlighting you will have the no make-up, make-up look.  Again, adding a little mascara and lip color and you are perfect for just about any situation.  This gives you the perfect base to build on and from here you can go all out glam or keep it simple for the everyday look.  Once you get the hang of this it can just take you a few minutes in the morning to be set and ready with a gorgeous looking face!

Nighttime Routine:

I think it is so important to not pile on product after product and let each one properly absorb into your skin.  You want these products to take their full effect and do their job and layering them on one right after another will not allow them to do their best work.

In addition to my faithful products I also use two tools that I think are excellent.  One is the Rodan and Fields roller which creates tiny little openings into your skin which helps the products absorb even deeper into your skin.  A second tool I am a huge fan of is the Jillian Dempsey gold vibrating roller which helps pull skin up and to assist in fighting gravity.

Two other special items I use at night are Rodan and Fields eye lash which helps grow your lashes and makes them thicker.  This product really works wonders.  However, I do suggest not using this all the time.  First of all, they can get too long (yes, it is possible) and I also think it isn’t the best to use this product for weeks and months at a time.  I use it for a few weeks and then lay off for a couple weeks or use it a couple times a week instead of every day…whatever works best for you.  The other special product I use is also a Rodan and Fields product “lip renewal”.  I only use half of the capsule at a time so I get twice the use of it.  One jar lasts me 4 months!

I am very, very careful in how much product I use☺  I think it is so common for people to use more than they actually need.  Be conservative with how much you use and you will stretch your dollars!

Skin Routine:

I try and do a few special things for my skin every month.  Most of these are products I use once or twice a week.  The only thing I use on a regular basis is my Clarisonic.  I use it with my cleanser at night or in the morning just with water (you don’t have to use soap with it).

Other things I like to do are masks, usually one a week and I use a variety of them.  The only one I like to use every week is the Drunk Elephant “baby facial”.  Also, extra little eye masks are also a great addition when doing a mask.  It gives extra hydration to your under eyes which is a place on your face that often gets dry and lacks hydration.

One additional product I love to use once or twice a week is the Rodan and Fields “microderm paste”.  This product is excellent and a wonderful way to take some layers off of your skin.  I often will do this at night after I wash my face but sometimes will do it in the morning as well.  And don’t forget your neck and chest!

The best friend to your skin is H2O.  Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!  You need to be continually drinking water throughout the day because your skin needs it!  If your face is feeling flaky or dry drink more water.  Water is the BEST thing for your skin.

Hair Care Routine:

I used to be a person who had to wash my hair every day.  And if I didn’t wash my hair I felt gross all day.  But I have overcome this curse of washing my hair every day.  It took a little time but now I have a whole new lease on life.  Now I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week.  Two things have contributed to this…

RECENT BLOGS:

  1. I put my hair up when I sleep at night.  I use a loose scrunchie or hair tie and place a high loose ponytail on top of my head.  You do NOT want a tight ponytail or to have it tightly slicked back.  It needs to be loose.  It will be a bit of a mess in the morning and some may be falling out (at least that is the case with me) but that doesn’t matter.

  2. The second thing is how I wash my hair.  I wash it twice and I vigorously scrub my scalp with my fingers (don’t use your nails).

These two things have changed my hair!

Sometimes I use dry shampoo and some days I will wet my hair when I shower and put a little conditioner on the ends and rinse it out.  I usually only wet my hair when I have a really hard workout and my hair is drenched or if I have been in the sun all day and been in the pool or ocean.  Again, by wetting my hair I am just rinsing it out but not actually washing it.  And I often will throw a little product in my hair and just let it air dry and pull it back in a bun.  I don’t take time to fully dry my hair more than a couple times a week.

A few products I love, when I don’t want my hair straight, are the wand or the deep wave iron.  Another tool I really like is the all in one brush/hair dryer.  This is great to use any time but I especially like using it when I am using dry shampoo or haven’t washed my hair and want to give it a little pick me up.

So, if I could wrap up a few of my tips they would be as follows:

Drink lots of water!

Let your products have time to absorb into your skin instead of piling them on one after the other.

Give your skin a little extra love with special tools, masks, and other special products.

Retrain your hair so you can only wash it a couple times a week.

Always pull your skin up and out when applying products and make-up.

Be conservative with your products and don’t use more than you need to.  This will extend how much use you get out of each product.

Always use sunscreen!

Don’t forget to extend products to your neck and décolletage (and the back of your hands).  Never stop after your face…keep going down.  Your neck, chest and hands can drastically age you!

Here’s to defying age and gravity!

XO!
