Skirting Around Town
Skirts
It seems people always think about pants, jeans, and dresses but often overlook skirts. And it is true that skirts are more “in” some years than others. As for now, skirts are out and about and need to be part of your wardrobe! I also can appreciate that a dress is so easy to throw on and go and that is often times why people gravitate towards them. But I want to challenge you to add a couple of skirts into your wardrobe this spring and summer season. Just like dresses, skirts can go from super easy, comfy and casual to dressier or more professional. I am going to encourage you to pick a couple casual styles, a dressier one and if you have the need something professional for the upcoming season
Skirts, like a dress and pants, offer various hem lengths that work right now. Mini, knee, midi, ankle….any and all of them are good. So, whatever you gravitate to and whatever you are drawn to is what you should go for! I will tell you my rule that is true for dresses, pants, or skirts; unless you are tall... if the length you choose is between the knee and ankle it is always good to add some height in your shoes when wearing them, it will make it most flattering. I am all about wearing sneakers and flats but just make sure you are wearing them with the right pieces and adding height when you need it. However, do you and BE you always, that is just my personal opinion and tip on the subject.
When shopping for a skirt, go for bold color, spring appropriate knits like crochet, embellished, flowy, pleated, leather. The sky’s the limit! The goal is to just incorporate these pieces into your closet and do so in a way that works for you and your lifestyle. Whether you pair a skirt with a simple tank and denim jacket, a fun top, or a knit there are so many ways to wear this trend and to have fun with it. Oh! And don’t forget to pattern mix and play with your textures as I have been talking about over the last several months. Take the sequins with the leather, the silk with the knit, the stripe with the floral, the polka dot with the plaid….just mix it up. If you need a little refresher on pattern mixing and fabric mixing you can see the blog posts I did for a little guidance. Here and Here
I would love to see the pieces you buy and how you style them. DM me with your skirt picks for the season or if you need help on how to style a specific piece just ask and I will take your fashion questions.
Happy Shopping Loves!
