Strut to Street: Plaid

Raise your hand if you are mad for plaid!  We saw plaid in every shape and form on the runway for fall.  Head to toe you can add plaid to your look.  Break plaid out of the same monotone form and give it color, make it oversized, wear it in dresses, shoes and coats…oh my! Plaid is also the perfect print to mix with florals, animal print, stripes and all the patterns you can think of!

Here are some tips for mixing your patterns. Both for mixing different plaid pieces together and also when you want to mix in one of the other prints (animal, floral, stripes). You want some similar colors between the different patterns. So maybe it’s all black and white, similar to what I have done, or maybe you are doing wine and navy, sky is the limit! But when you pick your color scheme keep those colors consistent in each printed item and that will help it flow and not compete. Also, keep the prints different sizes. Here my pants are a smaller plaid and my jacket is a larger buffalo plaid. So they go and don’t compete for the eyes attention.

Go for this trend babes! It is so fun and perfect for fall/winter. Adding plaid as a pop or creating a full plaid look is a definite in your style future!

Strut to Street: Urban Cowgirl

Urban cowgirl

This city girl bought her first pair of cowboy boots over a decade ago and has worn them one time since….so to say that western wear is generally not my go to would be an understatement, but this season I’m all in! Doing a head to toe western look isn’t my shtick but I’m all about adding influences from the wild west. There are so many ways to take elements of a trend and add them into your wardrobe without going hook, line and sinker. You can take a trend and allow parts of it to evolve into your closet in a way that suits your personality and compliments your lifestyle.

The runways have been full of nods to the western roots. So for me and how I would enjoy this trend is that urban cowgirl feeling, still fashion and still feminine but with the touches of the trend. This is great for you, babes, who want to rock this look without going full country girl. All the pieces I am wearing for this look can be worn to work or on the weekends as you normally style yourself…but when you add them all in together, it gives me those western vibes. Fringe, glitzy jacquard fabrics, ruffles, distressing, studs and animal hide type prints are all things to look for in pieces and accessories when you want to achieve this look.

One great must have piece for this look, that is also a big trend right now, is the belt. Don’t be scared to wear belts! They can really add a statement to a look and be a great budget friendly way to add in a trend. You can even pair your western belt with a more feminine or chic dress to give it that little bit of something special and unique without your outfit looking like you just crawled out of a Pinto Ranch fall catalog. In addition to belts, shoes are another fabulous way to add a little “Deep in the Heart of Texas” flare to your wardrobe. There are countless brands adding southwestern feels to their designs, especially in boots and the very trend mules.

So, grab the bull by the horns and go add some of these fun trends into your wardrobe this season! I think you will fall in love with it just as much as I have. And trust me, this is definitely something new for my wardrobe!

Not your typical white button down…

When selecting your layers, grab something that is unique. this bcbgeneration ruffle top is just that! It makes for a great under piece, for layering, but is fabulous when it stands alone as well!

Strut to Street: Shine On

Shine On:Metallics

Adding metallics to your wardrobe is a must this season! Gold is always great but think about silver or rose gold, for a new flair in your metallics this season. If you aren’t up for a full metallic look, think about adding it in your accessories. Accessories are a great way to get the trend, like I said, even if you don’t want to wear it in your clothing. This added touch of flash and sparkle really adds to and steps up a look. You can take a casual look and make it fun and great for a party or evening out with a touch of metallic! For example, I love taking a chambray or denim button down shirt and adding a great metallic statement necklace. It instantly gives the look a whole new feel! You can feel great about adding this into your wardrobe as it is a great trend that I don’t see going away anytime soon. A great metallic bootie is another accessory you can do in this trend and really make a look super fashion forward and fabulous!

Strut to Street: Leopard Out Loud

Leopard Out Loud

Not your grandmother’s animal print!  Every lady loves animal print in some form or fashion whether as a detail or a full ensemble. Some of you ladies will want to go all in on this trend and do it in a big way, while others might be more comforable adding it in with a shoe, bag, scarf or cuff bracelet. That’s okay! For this season, what we saw on the runway was not just the classic leopard print. We saw fun twists on this style with tiger prints, zebra, cats of all shapes and sizes, bold and very colorful leopard prints. These patterns could be ‘spotted’ from a mile away! (Like what I did there?!) So think of ways to add the prints into your wardrobe in a new, fresh, updated and unqiue way. For sure keep rocking your amazing neutral animal print piecs, but maybe think of adding in the bolder choice as well! This one stop shop look is an eye-catching look for the season that is sure to turn heads.
