Jacquard Fabrics

One of the more festive winter fashion trends I love is the reemergence of jacquard fabrics. The texture, shine, and colors scream holiday cheer, and when you get it right, it’s absolutely stunning!

A dress is a great option for working this trend into your holiday wardrobe. There are so many gorgeous jacquard fabrics in dresses and it can be a different and welcome change up to all the velvet and sequins. (although I LOVE these fabrications as well, don’t get me wrong!)  I think a blazer or a great pant, like I have done here, can be another fun and daily wearable option to add into your closet. A blazer is great to wear with jeans and a simple top or even with slacks for business. The pant can be great for work or a meeting but then can be dressed up for a holiday party, as an alternative to a dress. If you had a great suiting option, that is tasteful and subtle, that could be striking!

Great for holidays, weddings, or nights out.  This rich fabric will add depth and beauty to your wardrobe. Don’t be afraid to mix your textures together when working with jacquards. For example, in my look, I have the jacquard in my pants and then have the metallic kimono and a lace top layered underneath. Here I have played with small textures and mixing prints for a unique look. Find pieces that accomplish the (any) trend goal in a way that works for you! That will be how you nail any trend.

Is another great way to work in a jacquard or uniquely printed fabric into your wardrboe. It can be put over dresses, with a slack or even a distressed jean.

Strut to Street: Retro

Throwback Fashion

We are falling back in time with trends like wide whale corduroy, fanny packs, white shoes, branded garments, chunky sneakers and suiting.  These trends were made famous in part by such fashion icons as Annie Hall, Working Girl Melanie Griffith, and Twiggy.  Often times it can take years or even decades for trends to circle back in time… but, somehow they always manage to resurface.  I hear my mom say all the time “That’s back in style?! I wish I wore that when… Wish I would have saved it!” How many times have you heard that?! But it’s so true, things do come back around.

But let's not confuse these trends with fads which happened once upon a time and should never happen again!  Now may be a great time to go rummaging through your mother or grandmother's closets for some incredible finds or hit up your favorite vintage stores.  Nothing makes retro better than finding authentic pieces that you can freshen up by giving them your own personal fashion spin.

But if you are looking in department stores and online and seeing stuff that feels like you’ve seen it before, it’s because you probably have! The curent stores and trends are reflecting is so heavily. So whether you want to go find fun and vintage finds or if you want to shop new these trends are out there and ripe for the picking! Go find the styles you loved from older movies or go find things that speak to you now and make it happen, make it work, for yourself!

Fall Floral

Whoever said florals are just for spring was trying to keep a trend in a box.  So break out of your square this season and let the florals fly.  Fall’s perennials come in every variety from delicate florets to bold bouquets.

You can do a great floral pump or flat if you wanted to add this trend in your footwear. You maybe want it in a great jacket/coat or even a handbag, for just a pop of it. But, for me… a great fall floral dress speaks to me on so many levels.

Florals will also pair amazingly well with so many of the other trends and can be a refreshing addition to your fall wardrobe. You can do a look that is edgy meets feminine with a gorgeous floral flowy dress and a great moto jacket over the top. Add in a studded boot or shoe of some kind and you are ready to rock!

Floral is a unique and different choice for a holiday party, as those quickly approach with it offically being December. You can add sparkle and shine to the floral and turn it holiday glam!

So don’t box yourself in (or let anyone else do it TO you) and go for those deep, dark and romantic floral prints this season! You will not be sorry.

Colors to Add

As we wind up our fall looks and head into full on winter mode, as well as the Holiday season, let’s talk big trend colors! These colors are the ones I think are new, innovative and are a must for any wardrobe. These are also all colors that are great fall trends that carry you perfectly into the holidays and all those parties and outtings you have planned!

First up we have Metallic. I have talked about this before in a Strut to Street blog post, but felt it desereved another mention. Metallic is a great add on to your daily life, as it can be a fun pop! But as we get into holiday season, I can’t think of anything more perfect than metallic pieces, accents and accessories! Opt for Silver or Rose Gold this year instead of the ever classic Gold. Just to break it up! The silvers are so in and add a unique spin on a classic trend.

Next up is such a fun one! This trend is a new spin on very beloved colors-red and fuschia! Mixing them together was a big trend shown on the runways and is all over magazines. I absolutely love the mixture myself! I think they are such coordinating colors that aren’t usually together. They don’t ‘match’ (I think that is what I love about them!) they coordinate and ‘go,’ if you will. The pairing is such a fun look for the holiday season, as Hot Pink is such a trendy color and it’s a great way to really tie it in. You can do it in different pieces, like I have done, or you can look for pieces that are colorblocking it together. But simply add a red shoe to a pink dress or visaversa and you’re set! I love adding accessories to achieve a trend and outfit goal. But, if this trend is too much for you… do it in small ways or just do one color or the other and make it your own! But I think this pairing is fresh and here to stay.

Lastly we have the 50 Shades of Winter White. True white was such a great trend this fall and winter white is always a loved classic. I personally love a great winter white, you just think of SNOW! Am I right?! If you want to know ways to wear those true white pieces, check out this post from earlier this season for inspiration and tips. But for now, with this current look, I am talking more the creamy whites that almost take you in a champagne/rose gold (see how metallics are popping up everywhere?!) type direction. I love all the white hues and how they can take you in such a different direction depending on what you need, love and want. This warmer version of the Winter White is a great way to take you from fall into winter and, again, to those holiday parties!
